One Thing Most Homeschoolers Overlook

Many homeschool families omit testing from their assignments which means that they eliminate the need for studying. That is a critical mistake. They determine that as long as their student is doing the reading and responding to the questions in the workbook, then there is no reason to administer a test to their student. For these families, the idea of testing seems unnecessary. But testing serves a greater purpose than just deriving a grade. The purpose of testing is to reflect learning, and homeschool students need to learn as much as everyone else. The primary way that learning happens is through applied studying. When studying is neglected in homeschool programs, students are being set up to fail.

Studying requires active engaging of a student’s brain. There are ways to learn information that makes it “stick” for much longer, and when students fail to understand how to engage their brain, and how to process information so that they can use it, then they are left academically crippled. Testing leads to studying, and studying is one of the largest overlooked areas of skill development in homeschools. So whether you test or not in your homeschool program, you must educate your students on how to study. Studying will certainly be required in college, and as adults, there are always things that we must learn, so prepare your students for that higher level of learning that they can apply in college and beyond.

Unit studies and other forms of experiential learning are helpful ways to supplement the study process, but they cannot be all that you do. Learning takes habitual assessment of information, critical thinking about it, and application of it. All are required elements of studying, and therefore parts of the study process that you should be training your homeschoolers to do.

Don’t neglect adding study strategies into your homeschool program. You won’t always be the only source for your child’s education, and so their ability to learn, through study habits made strong at home, should be an essential part of every homeschool program while you have the opportunity to prepare them for greater learning.

Rug Pads For Children’s and Kids Room Rugs

If you have an area rug in your child’s room, it is best to add a rug pad underneath. This carpet pad will add comfort, warmth and protection for your child in terms of walking, crawling, sitting and laying down. Many kids love the floor and it is best to make it as comfortable and safe as possible for them.

One of my favorite rug pads for rugs in kid’s rooms is a recycled jute pad. This carpet pad is made from recycled wool and nylon fibers and is shy of a half of an inch thick for comfort. There are many jute rug pads available and the one that is best is a 40 ounce recycled felt jute. The 40 ounce weight provides a pad comfortable enough while also adding protection to your rug and your floor. This pad is mold and mildew resistant and odor free and does not contain any chemicals, latex or adhesive that can be harmful to allergies.

If you have a rug in a child’s room that tends to slip, you can choose a recycled jute and rubber combination pad. Here, the jute is recycled so it is very safe and the rubber side is a real, natural layer of rubber and not a sprayed on adhesive or rubber like substance of chemicals. The natural rubber layer is safe for floor and provides maximum gripping strength to hold the rug down. I tell customers to use this only if the rug is a smaller, scatter rug that could be dangerous if it slips around.

Choosing the best rug pad for your kids room is a smart choice in adding comfort, warmth and safety for all children. Making the right decision in a rug pad will prove to add comfort and safety that kids deserve.

Kids Snow Boots For Their Protection

Perhaps you have already prepared and matched your kid’s winter wear such as snowsuits, snow pants, snow jackets, winter hats, beanies, hand gloves and the long undergarments that must be worn underneath these; you might be experiencing a little difficulty finding and picking the right pair of boots. Winter season or perhaps snowy days mark a rather interesting venue for enjoyment and creativity. Making snowmen, angels and snowballs of different sizes thrill every kid in the neighborhood and probably so does your own kid.

Snow-boots are of the same level of importance as your kid’s snowsuit. Together with the winter wardrobe, snow boots would complete the winter gear that aims to protect your kid from diseases brought about by the cold weather such as frostbite and hypothermia. Snow boots could add protection especially at the ankle part of your kid’s foot since they are vulnerable to muscle sprains, cramps and the like because of the coldness of the environment. This boots add the warmth that you kid needs plus it takes out the moisture out of your kid’s feet because of its insulation.

Kid’s snow boots may be made of different kinds of materials such as leather and synthetic that don’t get worn easily even during vigorous play. Some materials like Gore-tex gives snow-boots a reliable and water-proof quality in which surely no liquid will slip inside. One is for hiking, snow-boots have cleats especially designed for hiking or climbing mountains. Kid’s snow boots may have cleats to give them better walking grip on ice-crusted roads and trails that may be slippery when ice starts to melt. Second is for ordinary walking activity or for casual wear. These snow boots that features an everyday use have flat soles made of rubber material. Flat rubber soles would keep your kid away from accidents such as sliding or falling on the snowy ground at a very comfortable snow-boots weight. Third is for ski sports, these boots are also called ski boots. If you live near mountains or high lands then you might opt to buy your kid snow boots with cleats, however if you just live in the city, a fashionable pair of snow boots with rubber flat soles may just be the perfect pair for your feet. Remember, in buying kid’s snow-boots quality over design and style should be the top priority.
